Regular Season Round 6: Ylli - Peja 99-96

The most exciting game of round 6 in the Liga e pare took place in Therande. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 5th ranked Peja (2-3) to second ranked Xhebrailat (4-1) 99-96 on Saturday evening. Xhebrailat outrebounded Peja 50-26 including a 15-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Xhebrailat made 7 blocks. It was a good game for international forward Arif Mehmetaj (201-94, college: Daemen) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds. American forward Taylor Bessick (206, college: Iona) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. International point guard Leonard Mekaj (182-95) replied with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 7 rebounds and 16 assists and international Arti Hajdari (190-93) added 32 points and 4 assists in the effort for Peja. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Xhebrailat have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 4-1 record having just two point less than leader Sigal Prishtina. Peja at the other side keeps the fifth place with three games lost. Xhebrailat are looking forward to face Borea (#7) in Peja in the next round where they are favorite. Peja will play at home against Kerasan and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
