Regular Season Round 7: TS Ostrovia - Widzew 93-74

Bottom-ranked Widzew (0-6) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 93-74 loss to tenth ranked TS Ostrovia (3-4) in Ostrow Wlkp. on Saturday evening. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when TS Ostrovia's pressure prevailed and they won that period 24-11 extending their advantage to 19 points. TS Ostrovia forced 19 Widzew turnovers and outrebounded them 32-21 including 22 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. It was a great evening for American center Breanna Lewis (196-94, college: Kansas St.) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 16 rebounds (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field). Cameroonian forward Marie-Ange Mfoula (188-92) helped adding 20 points. At the losing side guard Julia Drop (175-95) responded with 18 points and 6 assists and American swingman Kathleen Scheer (187-89, college: Duke) scored 13 points and 8 rebounds. Four Widzew players scored in double figures. TS Ostrovia moved-up to eighth place, which they share with CCC Polkowice. Widzew lost their sixth game in a row. They still close the standings with six games lost. They share the position with Enea AZS P.. TS Ostrovia will meet higher ranked Energa Torun (#7) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Widzew will play against CCC Polkowice (#8) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
