The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Real Canoe (4-1) in Madrid on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by Gran Canaria (5-0) 75-70. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Real Canoe. It was a key game for the top position in Group B. Real Canoe was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 25-17 charge of Gran Canaria, which allowed them to win the game. Gran Canaria outrebounded Real Canoe 38-27 including a 25-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. American guard Erica Covile (185, college: Temple) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds for the winners and her fellow American import point guard Starr Breedlove (168-93, college: UTEP) chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds. Four Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. Point guard Macarena Roldan-Garcia (173-94) responded with 29 points and Lithuanian power forward Dovile Miliauskaite (187-89, college: Towson, agency: ProDep Management) scored 9 points and 5 rebounds. Real Canoe's coach Jose Luis Vicente rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Gran Canaria have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place in Group B with 5-0 record, which they share with Leganes. Newly promoted Real Canoe keeps the third position with one game lost. They share it with Valencia. Gran Canaria is looking forward to face Valencia (#4) at home in the next round. Real Canoe will play against Picken Claret in Valencia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
