Regular Season Round 3: Athinaikos - Panionios 66-79

Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Athens: Panionios (#3) and Athinaikos (#9). Athinaikos was defeated at home 66-79 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The game was mostly controlled by Panionios. Athinaikos managed to win third quarter 17-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Panionios looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a great evening for American forward Katie Healy (185-94, college: St.Bonaventure) who led her team to a victory scoring 24 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international guard Aikaterini Spatharou (172-83) helped adding 16 points and 12 assists. Four Panionios players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Jamee Swan (188-94, college: Colorado, agency: LBM Management) with 27 points and 8 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and the other American import guard Samantha Mackay (173-91, college: Dayton, agency: Interperformances) scored 20 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Panionios will meet at home Proteas (#6) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Athinaikos will play against Esperides (#11) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
