Regular Season Round 6: Valencia - Gran Canaria 89-83

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Gran Canaria (4-2) against fourth ranked Valencia Basket (5-1) on Sunday night. Visiting Gran Canaria was defeated by Valencia Basket in a tough game in Valencia 83-89. It was a key game for the second position in the league. It looked good early as Gran Canaria took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Valencia Basket had a 22-15 second period charge getting the lead and Gran Canaria was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 83-89. They outrebounded Gran Canaria 35-22 including 24 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for Montenegrin power forward Bojan Dubljevic (205-91, agency: BeoBasket) who led his team to a victory with 8 points and 13 rebounds. American point guard Erick Green (190-91, college: Virginia Tech) contributed with 20 points for the winners. Dominican Eulis Baez (201-82, college: W.Illinois) replied with 14 points and 6 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and Israeli point guard Gal Mekel (190-88, college: Wichita St., agency: BeoBasket) added 15 points in the effort for Gran Canaria. Gran Canaria's coach Luis Casimiro rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Fuenlabrada. Gran Canaria at the other side dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. They share it with 4 other teams. Valencia Basket will play against Burgos (#17) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Gran Canaria will play against the league's second-placed Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
