Regular Season Round 8: Kauhajoki - Kataja Basket 102-80

Date: October 29, 2017
The game between fifth ranked Kauhajoki (5-3) and 6th ranked Joensuun Kataja (3-3) in Kauhajoki on Sunday ended with biggest points difference. Kauhajoki outscored guests from Joensuu 102-80. The game was mostly controlled by Kauhajoki. Joensuun Kataja managed to win third quarter 23-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kauhajoki dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Joensuun Kataja's 42. American players dominated also this game. The winners were led by forward Flenard Whitfield (201-90, college: W.Michigan) who scored that evening 24 points and 8 rebounds and guard Marcus Allen (191-94, college: Stanford) supported him with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Even 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists by guard Daniel Bejarano (193-91, college: Colorado St.) did not help to save the game for Joensuun Kataja. Swingman Wesley Saunders (196-93, college: Harvard) added 10 points and 12 rebounds for the guests. Five Kauhajoki and four Joensuun Kataja players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Kauhajoki have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Helsinki Seagulls. Defending champion Joensuun Kataja keeps the sixth position with three games lost. Kauhajoki will meet at home UU-Korihait (#8) in the next round. Joensuun Kataja will play against Espoo United and hope to secure a win.
