Regular Season Round 8: Niigata R. - Mitsubishi K. 48-85

Bottom-ranked Niigata R. (0-8) is still winless. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their eighth consecutive match to second ranked Mitsubishi K. (6-2) 85-48 on Sunday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Mitsubishi K.. Niigata R. managed to win fourth quarter 17-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Niigata R. to just 5 points in first quarter. Mitsubishi K. dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Niigata R.'s 26. Mitsubishi K. forced 22 Niigata R. turnovers and had a 21-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international swingman Aya Watanabe (170-92) who scored 15 points, 5 assists and 6 steals. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Mitsubishi K. have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 6-2 record having just two points less than leader JX-Eneos S., which they share with Toyota A. Loser Niigata R. still closes the standings with eight games lost.
