There was no surprise when bottom-ranked Independiente (0-3) was outleveled by fourth ranked Villa San Martin (3-1) in Santiago del Estero 87-59 on Tuesday. Villa San Martin dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Independiente's 28. They outrebounded Independiente 44-23 including a 14-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Villa San Martin especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. Point guard Martin Cabrera (181-96) orchestrated the victory by scoring 24 points and 5 assists. American forward Travis Hammonds (198, college: CS Los Angeles) contributed with 19 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American forward Bakari Copeland (198-95, college: Md-E Shore) answered with 14 points and guard Federico Mansilla (191-87) added 13 points in the effort for Independiente. Independiente's coach Javier Montenegro gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Villa San Martin have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Gimnasia LP and Deportivo Viedma. Loser Independiente still closes the standings with three games lost. Villa San Martin will face league's second-placed Talleres TV in Tafi Viejo in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week.
