Regular Season Round 5: Njardvik - Valur 86-83

A very close game took place in Njardvik between Njardvik and Valur. Sixth ranked Njardvik (3-2) got a very close home victory over 11th ranked Valur (1-4). Njardvik managed to escape with a 3-point win 86-83 on Thursday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Njardvik forced 19 Valur turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Njardvik made 9 blocks. American forward Terrell Vinson (201-90, college: Massachusetts, agency: HMS) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 19 rebounds for the winners and the former international center Ragnar Nathanaelsson (218-91) chipped in 14 points, 14 rebounds and 6 blocks. American forward Urald King (198-90, college: SE Oklahoma) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists and naturalized American guard Austin Bracey (190-90) scored 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Valur players scored in double figures. Valur's coach Agust Bjorgvinsson rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Njardvik moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Grindavik. Newly promoted Valur dropped to the tenth position with four games lost. They share it with Thor Thorl. Njardvik will meet Thor AK (#9) in the next round. Valur will play against Stjarnan and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
