Regular Season Round 5: Hottur - Grindavik 70-100
Date: November 2, 2017
Bottom-ranked Hottur (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 100-70 loss to fifth ranked Grindavik (3-2) in Egilsstadir. Grindavik had a 34-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Hottur was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Rashad Whack (190-91, college: Mt.St.Mary's) orchestrated the victory by scoring 27 points. Guard Dagur Jonsson (185-95, college: St.Francis, NY) contributed with 17 points and 7 assists for the winners. Four Grindavik players scored in double figures. The former international forward Mirko Virijevic (201-81, college: Freed-Hardeman, agency: SportsVision-Service) answered with 21 points and 9 rebounds and American guard Aaron Moss (185, college: Cabrini) added 11 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Hottur. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Grindavik maintains fifth place with 3-2 record, which they share with Njardvik. Newly promoted Hottur still closes the standings with five games lost. Grindavik will play against league's leader KR in Reykjavik in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hottur will play on the road against Haukar (#7) in Hafnarfjordur and hopes to get finally their first victory.
