Regular Season Round 6: Cortegada - Joventut LC 76-77

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Vilagarcia Arousa where 8th ranked Cortegada (3-3) was edged by ninth ranked Joventut LC (3-3) 77-76 on Saturday. Strangely Cortegada outrebounded Joventut LC 42-30 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Cortegada was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Nerea Garmendia who had a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds. Eliana Soriano chipped in 14 points, 7 assists and 6 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was Senegalese center Amy Syll (196-93, agency: ProDep Management) who recorded a double-double by scoring 15 points and 21 rebounds and guard Sara Gomez (172-86, agency: ProDep Management) added 26 points and 8 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively. Joventut LC moved-up to sixth place in Group A, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Cortegada. Joventut LC will face league's second-placed Aros Patatas in Leon in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
