Regular Season Round 7: Al-Qazeres - Bembibre 72-59

Rather predictable result in Caceres where eighth ranked Al-Qazeres (4-3) defeated 11th ranked Socinsa Bembibre (2-5) 72-59 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 7 points at the halftime before their 41-21 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Al-Qazeres dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Socinsa Bembibre's 28. They outrebounded Socinsa Bembibre 40-27 including 27 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for American forward Shayla Cooper (188-95, college: Ohio St.) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds. Her fellow American import guard Alexis Jones (175-94, college: Baylor) helped adding 22 points and 4 assists. Al-Qazeres' coach Jacinto Carbajal allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side Canadian center Quinn Urbaniak-Dornstauder (193-95, college: Arizona St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds and Montenegrin power forward Kristina Rakovic (186-94, agency: ProDep Management) scored 16 points. Al-Qazeres moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Gernika and Sant Adria. Loser Socinsa Bembibre keeps the eleventh position with five games lost. Al-Qazeres will face bottom-ranked ASEFA Estudiantes (#14) in Madrid in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Socinsa Bembibre will play at home against AE Sedis and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
