Regular Season Round 4: Guangdong ST - Sichuan BW 113-109

Undefeated leader Guandong Tigers delivered the fourth consecutive victory. This time they beat bottom-ranked Blue Whales (0-4) 113-109 in Dongguan. Guandong Tigers dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Blue Whales' 46. Guandong Tigers forced 21 Blue Whales turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. 27 personal fouls committed by Blue Whales helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by Canadian Andrew Nicholson (206-89, college: St.Bonaventure) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international Jianlian Yi (212-87) supported him with 28 points and 16 rebounds. Even a double-double of 44 points (!!!), 13 rebounds and 6 assists by American Jamaal Franklin (196-91, college: San Diego St., agency: Slash Sports) did not help to save the game for Blue Whales. Iranian center Hamed Haddadi (218-85) added 15 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Blue Whales' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Guandong Tigers have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 4-0 record, which they share with Jiangsu D. and Guangsha L. Blue Whales at the other side still closes the standings with four games lost. Guandong Tigers' next round opponent will be Xinjiang Flying Tige (#6) in Urumqi where they are favorite. Blue Whales will play at home against Sharks (#14) and hope to get finally their first victory.
