Rather predictable result when fourth ranked Villeneuve D'Ascq (4-1) defeated at home 7th ranked Tarbes (2-4) 70-59 on Saturday. Villeneuve D'Ascq forced 20 Tarbes turnovers. DR Congolese power forward Pauline Akonga-Nsimbo (188-82, agency: LBM Management) scored 10 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international guard Virginie Bremont (177-87) chipped in 15 points during the contest. Four Villeneuve D'Ascq players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Canadian forward Michelle Plouffe (193-92, college: Utah) with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds and international center Aby Gaye (195-95) scored 12 points. Defending champion moved-up to third place. Loser Tarbes dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. Villeneuve D'Ascq will face Mondeville (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Tarbes will play against Basket Landes and hope to win that game.
