Regular Season Round 9: Niigata R. - Toyota A. 45-103

Bottom-ranked Niigata R. (0-10) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 103-45 loss to third ranked Toyota A. (8-2) in Tokyo. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The game without a history. Toyota A. led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Niigata R. to just 4 points in fourth quarter. Toyota A. dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to Niigata R.'s 14. Toyota A. forced 21 Niigata R. turnovers and outrebounded them 45-23 including a 30-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three nailing 18 long-distance shots on high 58.1 percentage. Toyota A. players were unselfish on offense dishing 32 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Niigata R.'s players. The former international forward Moeko Nagaoka (180-93) nailed 16 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and forward Mayi Na (181-93) accounted for 13 points and 7 rebounds. Five Toyota A. players scored in double figures. Power forward Manaka Watanabe (177-95) came up with 16 points and guard Ayaka Kogure (163-91) added 9 points and 5 assists respectively for Niigata R. in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Toyota A.. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Mitsubishi K. Niigata R. lost their tenth game in a row. They still close the standings with ten games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
