Regular Season Round 7: Perugia - Ortona 76-52

There was an upset when higher ranked Ortona (3-4) was outplayed on the road by sixteenth ranked Perugia (2-5) 76-52 on Sunday. Perugia dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Ortona's 22. They outrebounded Ortona 48-29 including a 39-27 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for Umberto Meschini (188-94) who led his team to a victory scoring 27 points and 8 rebounds. Center Alessandro Panzieri (199-95, college: High School) helped adding 19 points and 5 rebounds. Perugia's coach Filippo Fiorucci felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side point guard Diego Martino (167-93) responded with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and center Luca Malfatti (202-90) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. Perugia moved-up to thirteenth place in B, which they share with Reggio Emilia. Loser Ortona dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. Perugia will face higher ranked Pescara (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
