Regular Season Round 6: Oviedo - GDKO Bizkaia 56-81

Bottom-ranked Oviedo (0-6) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 81-56 loss to third ranked GDKO Bizkaia (5-1) in Oviedo on Sunday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The game was mostly controlled by GDKO Bizkaia. Oviedo was better in fourth quarter 22-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. GDKO Bizkaia dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Oviedo's 26. GDKO Bizkaia forced 23 Oviedo turnovers and outrebounded them 39-27 including 25 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was power forward Jone Azkue (180-95) who scored 16 points. Center Miren Agirregoikoa (192-87) chipped in 12 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Five GDKO Bizkaia players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Carmen Ortiz (-96) who recorded 15 points and 8 rebounds and Tania Soto added 18 points respectively. GDKO Bizkaia have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place in Group A, which they share with Aros Patatas. Loser Oviedo still closes the standings with six games lost. GDKO Bizkaia will face league's leader Real Celta Vigo at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Oviedo will play against ADBA (#11) in Aviles and hopes to get finally their first victory.
