Regular Season Round 8: Gorizont II - Victoria 74-98

Victoria can celebrate finally their first win this season after seven consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Minsk, where they outplayed Gorizont II (1-5) 98-74 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Victoria. Gorizont II managed to win third quarter 19-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Gorizont II 50-22 including a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. 25 personal fouls committed by Gorizont II helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was center Mariya Fedorovich (180-0) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds. Point guard Yuliya Vasilevich (165-1) chipped in 11 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. Four Victoria players scored in double figures. International power forward Ksenia Malashko (182-0) produced 19 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and Ekaterina Yalchik (170-0) added 19 points respectively for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. It was the only win of guest team this round and in all other games host teams recorded victories. Victoria maintains seventh position with 1-7 record. Gorizont II at the other side keeps the sixth place with five games lost. Victoria are looking forward to face higher ranked BrGU COR Victoria (#5) in Brest in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Gorizont II will have a break next round.
