Regular Season Round 6: Den Helder - Groningen 69-86

Date: November 5, 2017
Bottom-ranked Den Helder (0-6) is still winless. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their sixth consecutive match to third ranked Groningen (4-1) 86-69. The game was mostly controlled by Groningen. Den Helder was better in fourth quarter 16-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Den Helder 39-26 including 27 on the defensive glass. Groningen players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Den Helder's players. American guard Brandyn Curry (187-91, college: Harvard) notched 22 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and American-Nigerian guard Stephen Domingo (201-95, college: California) supported him with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Even 20 points and 4 assists by naturalized Dominican point guard Tjoe de-Paula (185-81, agency: Court Side) did not help to save the game for Den Helder. American power forward Quinterian McConico (203-95, college: Alabama A&M, agency: Court Side) added 11 points and 8 rebounds. Five Groningen and four Den Helder players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Groningen have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains third position with 4-1 record behind leader Leiden, which they share with Den Bosch. Newly promoted Den Helder still closes the standings with six games lost. Groningen will play against league's second-placed Zwolle at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Den Helder will have a break next round.
