An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Sendai. Third ranked Sendai 89ers faced 4th placed Dragonflies. Host Sendai 89ers (6-7) smashed guests from Hiroshima (6-7) 108-89. Sendai 89ers made 25-of-30 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game, while Dragonflies only scored eight points from the stripe. They outrebounded Dragonflies 38-26 including 26 on the defensive glass. Dragonflies were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Nigerian-Canadian Olu Ashaolu (200-88, college: Oregon) fired a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds for the winners. U.S. Virgin Islands center Craig Williams (206-89, college: TCU) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. Sendai 89ers' coach Toshihiro Goto used a ten-player rotation saving starting five for next games. American guard Wendell White (198-84, college: UNLV) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import guard Terrence Drisdom (196-92, college: Cal Poly Pomona) added 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Four Dragonflies players scored in double figures. Sendai 89ers maintains third place with 6-7 record having five points less than leader Gunma, which they share with Toyotsu FE and Hiroshima D. Sendai 89ers will face Yamagata (#4) on the road in the next round.
