Regular Season Round 5: Kings - Hawks 83-93

Round 5 most important game was a victory of Illawarra Hawks over 8th ranked Kings 93-83 on Sunday night. Illawarra Hawks made 26-of-32 free shots (81.3 percent) during the game, while Kings only scored eight points from the stripe. American point guard Rotnei Clarke (183-89, college: Butler) orchestrated the victory by scoring 29 points and 5 assists (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). International power forward Nick Kay (206-92, college: Metro St.) contributed with 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Four Illawarra Hawks players scored in double figures. Illawarra Hawks' coach Rob Beveridge used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international swingman Brad Newley (199-85, agency: BeoBasket) answered with 18 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists and American forward Perry Ellis (203-93, college: Kansas) added 19 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Kings. Illawarra Hawks (3-5) moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Taipans. Kings at the other side stay at the bottom position with six games lost. Illawarra Hawks is looking forward to face higher ranked Adelaide 36ers (#4) in Findon in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Kings will play on the road against United (#3) in Melbourne and are hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
