Regular Season Round 5: DCU Mercy - Glanmire 78-58

Super League round 5 caused change at the leadership position. First defeat of league's leader Glanmire (4-1) against fifth ranked DCU Mercy (3-1) 78-58 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Glanmire. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when DCU Mercy made 8 blocks. American forward Alexandra Masaquel (178, college: William & Mary) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 17 rebounds. Her fellow American import guard Tiffany Corselli (165, college: Niagara) contributed with 20 points for the winners. Four DCU Mercy players scored in double figures. The former international forward Grainne Dwyer (182-84) answered with 17 points and 9 rebounds and the former international guard Claire Rockall (178-90, college: Iowa St.) added 13 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Glanmire. DCU Mercy moved-up to third place, which they share with WIT Wildcats. Glanmire at the other side dropped to the second position with one game lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Liffey Celtics. Glanmire will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. DCU Mercy will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Brunell in Cork.
