The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Peli-Karhut as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Peli-Karhut smashed 9th ranked Helmi Basket in Kotka 81-59. The game was mostly controlled by Peli-Karhut. Helmi Basket managed to win fourth quarter 16-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Peli-Karhut dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Helmi Basket's 22. Peli-Karhut forced 23 Helmi Basket turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Peli-Karhut made 9 blocks. American forward Akilah Sims (178-94, college: IUPUI) fired 22 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Her fellow American import forward Megan Mullings (185-92, college: Alaska-Anch.) chipped in 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. Four Peli-Karhut players scored in double figures. Guard Sara Bejedi (166-0) produced 27 points and 7 rebounds and international guard Lotta-Maj Lahtinen (176-99) added 10 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Peli-Karhut have a solid series of three victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Helmi Basket at the other side keeps the ninth place with six games lost. Helmi Basket will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Peli-Karhut will try to continue on its current victory against tenth ranked Aanekosken in Aanekoski.
