Regular Season Round 5: Melbourne - Dandenong 60-57

A very close game took place in Melbourne between Boomers and Dandenong Rangers. Fifth ranked Boomers (5-4) got a very close home victory over 4th placed Dandenong Rangers (4-4). Boomers managed to escape with a 3-point win 60-57 in the game for the fourth place. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Dandenong Rangers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Boomers made 8 blocks. The former international center Elizabeth Cambage (203-91) stepped up and scored 27 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and New Zealand forward Kalani Purcell (188-95, college: BYU) chipped in 2 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international guard Stephanie Cumming-Blicavs (178-90) responded with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and international forward Sara Blicavs (188-93) scored 12 points and 8 rebounds. Boomers moved-up to fourth place. Loser Dandenong Rangers dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. Boomers will meet at home higher ranked Adelaide Lightning (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Dandenong Rangers will play against Adelaide Lightning and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
