Regular Season Round 10: KTP Basket - Helsinki Seagulls 88-86
Date: November 7, 2017
The most exciting game of round 10 in the Korisliiga took place in Kotka. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of much higher ranked Helsinki Seagulls (7-4) to eleventh ranked KTP-Basket (3-7) 88-86 on Tuesday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Helsinki Seagulls. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Helsinki Seagulls won third quarter 30-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Helsinki Seagulls 44-33 including 33 on the defensive glass. American center Kenneth Simms (206-86, college: Cumberland, agency: Interperformances) fired a double-double by scoring 20 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. The other American import swingman Jermont Horton (198-84, college: Rutgers-Newark) chipped in 19 points and 9 rebounds. Five KTP-Basket players scored in double figures. The former international Antti Kanervo (192-89, agency: Blacktop Management) produced 25 points and 6 rebounds and international Tuukka Kotti (205-81, college: Providence) added 9 points and 12 rebounds respectively for lost side. Helsinki Seagulls' coach Mikko Larkas rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. KTP-Basket moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Korihait and Espoo United. Helsinki Seagulls at the other side dropped to the fourth position with four games lost. KTP-Basket is looking forward to face league's leader Salon Vilpas at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Helsinki Seagulls will have a break next round.
