Very important is a road loss of third ranked Sendai 89ers (6-8) against fourth ranked Yamagata (5-9) on Saturday night. Visiting Sendai 89ers were defeated by Yamagata in Yamagata 86-74. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Sendai 89ers. Yamagata made 21-of-24 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Nigerian-Canadian Olu Ashaolu (200-88, college: Oregon) added 12 points and 8 rebounds for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Yamagata maintains fourth position with 5-9 record, which they share with Kagawa FA. Loser Sendai 89ers keep the third place with eight games lost. Yamagata will again meet at home higher ranked Sendai 89ers (#3) in the next round and it may be the game of the week.
