Regular Season Round 13: Niigata Albirex - SeaHorses 80-84

Rather predictable result when first ranked Aishin Sea Horses (14-1) beat on the road 4th placed Niigata Albirex (6-9) 84-80 on Saturday. Aishin Sea Horses dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Niigata Albirex's 30. They outrebounded Niigata Albirex 44-26 including 33 on the defensive glass. The former international center JR Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) fired a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. American center Isaac Butts (208-89, college: Appalachian St.) chipped in 9 points and 14 rebounds. Aishin Sea Horses' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The former international guard Kei Igarashi (180-80) produced 18 points and Masashi Joho (183-82) added 14 points and 5 assists respectively for lost side. The victory was the fourteenth consecutive win for Aishin Sea Horses. They maintain first place with 14-1 record. Niigata Albirex lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the second position with nine games lost. Aishin Sea Horses will face Yokohama BC (#6) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Niigata Albirex will play against Shiga L-Stars (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
