A very close game took place in Cantu between Umana Venezia and MIA-RO Cantu. Fourth ranked Umana Venezia (6-1) got a very close victory on the road over 10th ranked MIA-RO Cantu (3-4). Umana Venezia managed to escape with a 1-point win 93-92 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Umana Venezia looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Lithuanian swingman Gediminas Orelik (199-90) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 8 rebounds and American-Georgian point guard Marquez Haynes (191-86, college: Texas Arlington) who added 19 points and 4 assists during the contest. Umana Venezia's coach Walter De Raffaele used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. American guard Jeremy Chappell (191-87, college: Robert Morris) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists and his fellow American import point guard Randy Culpepper (183-89, college: UTEP, agency: Inception Sports) scored 26 points and 5 rebounds. Four Umana Venezia and five MIA-RO Cantu players scored in double figures. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with EA7 Armani and Fiat TO. MIA-RO Cantu at the other side dropped to the sixth position with four games lost. They share it with 5 other teams. Umana Venezia will meet Scandone AV (#5) in the next round. MIA-RO Cantu will play against the league's leader Germani BR and hope to secure a win.
