Regular Season Round 7: Tokyo Excel. - Tokyo Cinq R. 106-80

Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Tokyo: Tokyo Excel. (#3) and Tokyo Cinq R. (#8). Tokyo Excel. (2-0) crushed visiting Tokyo Cinq R. (1-3) by 26 points 106-80. Tokyo Excel. dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Tokyo Cinq R.'s 38. They outrebounded Tokyo Cinq R. 41-23 including a 30-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Tokyo Excel. especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 56.3 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Tokyo Cinq R.'s players. It was an exceptional evening for American Justin Herold (203-91, college: Sonoma St.) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds (on 16-of-20 shooting from the field). Guard Satoshi Miyata (180-78) accounted for 9 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists for the winning side. American forward Drew Martin (203-94, college: Concordia, OR) came up with 34 points (!!!) and point guard Yohei Sakai (167-91) added 23 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Tokyo Cinq R. in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Tokyo Excel. maintains third place with 2-0 record having 2 victories less than leader Tokyo HT. Loser Tokyo Cinq R. dropped to the seventh position with three games lost. They share it with Kagoshima. Tokyo Excel.'s supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tokyo to the arena Tokyo HT.
