Everything could happen in Azkoitia at the game between two tied teams. Both ninth ranked Arxil Pontevedra and 10th ranked Rioja had identical 3-3 record. But Rioja was not able to use a home court advantage and lost to the opponent from Pontevedra 79-72 on Sunday night. The guests trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 28-19 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Arxil Pontevedra dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Rioja's 44. Arxil Pontevedra forced 28 Rioja turnovers and had a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a very good performance for forward Maria Lago (-92) who helped to win the game recording 19 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals. Chilean power forward Narlyn Mosquera contributed with 21 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American guard Brenae Harris (178-92, college: Toledo) answered with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import center Erika Livermore (185-93, college: Fair Dickinson) added 12 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Rioja. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Rioja's coach Xabier Chico rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Arxil Pontevedra (4-3) moved-up to sixth place in Group A, which they share with Cortegada and Joventut LC. Rioja lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the tenth position with four games lost. Arxil Pontevedra will face league's second-placed Lima-Horta in Barcelona in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Rioja will play on the road against Aros Patatas (#3) in Leon and hope to win that game.
