Regular Season Round 13: Niigata Albirex - SeaHorses 84-98

No shocking result in a game when first ranked Aishin Sea Horses (14-1) defeated on the road 4th placed Niigata Albirex (6-9) 98-84 on Sunday. Aishin Sea Horses dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Niigata Albirex's 44. Aishin Sea Horses had a 24-13 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The former international swingman Kosuke Kanamaru (193-89) fired 26 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. The former international center JR Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) chipped in 20 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists (perfect from the field making all ten shots !!!). Aishin Sea Horses' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Masashi Joho (183-82) produced 26 points and American Davante Gardner (203-91, college: Marquette) added 19 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the fourteenth consecutive win for Aishin Sea Horses. They maintain first place with 14-1 record. Niigata Albirex lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the second position with nine games lost. Aishin Sea Horses will face Yokohama BC (#6) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Niigata Albirex will play against Shiga L-Stars (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
