Regular Season Round 8: Breidablik - Skallagrimur 102-92

D1 round 8 caused change at the leadership position. First defeat of league's leader Skallagrimur (6-1) against second ranked Breidablik (6-1) 102-92 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Skallagrimur. It was a key game for the top position in the league. They outrebounded Skallagrimur 45-34 including a 33-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. American guard Jeremy Smith (190, college: Nicholls St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field). Guard Ragnar Ragnarsson (188-97) contributed with 30 points for the winners. Guard Hjalti-Asberg Thorleifsson (185-96) replied with 24 points and 6 rebounds and swingman Eyjolfur Halldorsson (194-98) added 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Skallagrimur. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Breidablik keeps a position of league leader, which they share with defeated Skallagrimur. Skallagrimur will play next round against strong Vestri trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Breidablik will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Snaefell in Stykkisholmur.
