Regular Season Round 7: Hawks - Kings 97-93
Date: November 16, 2017
No shocking result in a game in Gwynneville where fourth ranked Illawarra Hawks (5-6) defeated bottom-ranked Kings (2-9) 97-93. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Illawarra Hawks made 27-of-34 charity shots (79.4 percent) during the game, while Kings only scored nine points from the stripe. Strangely Kings outrebounded Illawarra Hawks 48-34 including 17 on the offensive glass. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. 26 personal fouls committed by Kings helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was an exceptional evening for the former international center Andrew-James Ogilvy (211-88, college: Vanderbilt) who led the winners and scored 19 points and 9 rebounds. American point guard Rotnei Clarke (183-89, college: Butler) accounted for 19 points and 6 assists for the winning side. Illawarra Hawks' coach Rob Beveridge allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American-Ukrainian point guard Jerome Randle (175-87, college: California) came up with 28 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and American forward Perry Ellis (203-93, college: Kansas) added 21 points and 11 rebounds respectively for Kings in the defeat. Five Illawarra Hawks and four Kings players scored in double figures. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Illawarra Hawks. Despite that victory Illawarra Hawks went down to fifth position due to points difference, which they share with Taipans. Kings lost their fifth game in a row. They stay at the bottom place with nine games lost. Illawarra Hawks' next round opponent will be higher ranked United (#3) in Melbourne and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Kings will play on the road against Cairns Taipans (#5) and hope to win that game.
