Very important is a road loss of third ranked Asseco (5-3) against ninth ranked Wilki Morskie (5-5) on Friday night. Visiting Asseco was edged by Wilki Morskie in a tough game in Szczecin in overtime87-90. It looked good early as Asseco took a 14-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Wilki Morskie took control and eventually winning the game that evening in overtime by 3 points. Wilki Morskie shot 28 for 42 from the free-throw line, while Asseco only scored eight points from the stripe. They outrebounded Asseco 46-27 including a 19-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Asseco was plagued by 35 personal fouls down the stretch. Lithuanian Tauras Jogela (202-93, agency: Players Group) orchestrated the victory by scoring 29 points and 5 rebounds. Power forward Mateusz Bartosz (205-87) contributed with 16 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. The former international point guard Krzysztof Szubarga (178-84) replied with 17 points and 7 assists and the former international guard Marcel Ponitka (195-97) added 12 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Asseco. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Wilki Morskie maintains ninth position with 5-5 record. Asseco at the other side dropped to the sixth place with three games lost. They share the position with Trefl. Wilki Morskie will play against Start (#12) in Lublin in the next round. Asseco will play at home against Trefl (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
