Regular Season Round 9: IA - FSU 80-87

Date: November 17, 2017
FSU has finally registered their first victory this season after seven consecutive losses. The win is especially important as it came on the road game in Akranes, where they defeated IA (0-7) 87-80. Strangely IA outrebounded FSU 45-30 including a 22-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for American forward Jett Speelman (201-94, college: Denison) who led his team to a victory with 26 points. Point guard Hlynur Hreinsson (174-92) contributed with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Four FSU players scored in double figures. American point guard Marcus Dewberry (183, college: St.Leo, agency: Aspire Sports) answered with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and center Jon Kristjansson (197-83) added 11 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for IA. IA's coach Jon Thordarson rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. It was the only win of guest team this round and in all other games host teams recorded victories. FSU (1-7) left bottom position moving up to eighth place. It was IA's seventh loss in a row. They still close the standings with seven games lost. FSU's next round opponent will be league's leader Skallagrimur in Borganes and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. IA will play at home against Fjolnir (#6) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
