Regular Season Round 8: Aros Patatas - Rioja 64-57

Not a big story in a game in Leon where 11th ranked Rioja (3-5) was defeated by third ranked Aros Patatas (6-2) 64-57 on Saturday. Rioja was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Aros Patatas made 20-of-22 free shots (90.9 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Rioja turnovers and had a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Aros Patatas made 9 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of power forward Itsaso Conde (185-96) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Andrea Alcantara (169-99) who added 16 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. DR Congolese-Belgian center Harriet Bende (186-94) responded with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 14 rebounds and American center Erika Livermore (185-93, college: Fair Dickinson) scored 20 points. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Aros Patatas moved-up to second place in Group A, which they share with Barca CBS and Lima-Horta. Rioja lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the tenth position with five games lost. Aros Patatas will face league's second-placed Lima-Horta in Barcelona in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Rioja will play on the road against Joventut LC (#9) in Barcelona and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
