Regular Season Round 6: Aris - G.Larissa-Faros 71-60

There was a minor upset in Thessaloniki where higher ranked G.Larissa-Faros (3-3) was defeated by eleventh ranked Aris (3-3) 71-60. It looked good early as G.Larissa-Faros took a 8-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Aris took control winning next two quarters and eventually winning the game that evening by 11 points. The former international forward Panagiotis Vasilopoulos (202-84) notched 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and American guard Gary Bell (192-92, college: Gonzaga, agency: Higher Vision Sports) supported him with 9 points and 7 rebounds. Even 14 points and 9 rebounds by Dutch power forward Roeland Schaftenaar (211-88, college: Oregon St.) did not help to save the game for G.Larissa-Faros. Forward Vasileios Mouratos (193-97) added 15 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Aris moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated G.Larissa-Faros. Aris' next round opponent will be higher ranked Promitheas (#3) in Patras and it may be quite challenging game.
