Regular Season Round 9: Fuenlabrada - Zaragoza 88-82

There was no surprise in Madrid where 7th ranked Zaragoza (4-5) was defeated by fourth ranked Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (7-2) 88-82. Zaragoza was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada made 16-of-21 charity shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Zaragoza was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for Mexican guard Francisco Cruz (190-89, college: Wyoming) who led his team to a victory with 20 points and 5 assists. Croatian point guard Marko Popovic (185-82, college: S.Idaho JC, agency: Alti Sport) contributed with 19 points for the winners. American guard Gary Neal (193-84, college: Towson) answered with 22 points and 5 assists (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) and the former international point guard Tomas Bellas (185-90) added 13 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Zaragoza. Four Zaragoza players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams. Zaragoza at the other side dropped to the eighth position with five games lost. They share it with 4 other teams. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada will play against Gipuzkoa (#16) in San Sebastian in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Zaragoza will play at home against the league's second-placed FC Barcelona (#2) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
