Bottom-ranked Panionios (0-6) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 83-73 loss to fourth ranked AEK (4-2) in Athens on Saturday evening. The hosts trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 37-23 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. American swingman Manny Harris (196-89, college: Michigan) scored 19 points to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import point guard Mike Green (185-85, college: Butler) chipped in 14 points and 5 assists during the contest. Five AEK players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Serbian-Canadian power forward Dejan Kravic (211-90, college: Texas Tech) with 20 points and 8 rebounds and swingman Vagel Sakellariou (195-89) scored 13 points and 4 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. AEK maintains fourth position with 4-2 record, which they share with Lavrio. Newly promoted Panionios still closes the standings with six games lost. They share the position with Kymis. AEK will meet Lavrio (#5) on the road in the next round. Panionios will play against Kymis (#13) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
