Regular Season Round 9: Spirou - Aalstar 77-54

The game between second ranked Okapi Aalstar (6-3) and fifth ranked Spirou Charleroi (5-3) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. Okapi Aalstar was crushed by Spirou Charleroi in Charleroi 77-54. Spirou Charleroi made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Jack Gibbs (183-95, college: Davidson) who scored 19 points. The former international power forward Ioann Iarochevitch (207-89) chipped in 10 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Spirou Charleroi players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Vernon Taylor (192-87, college: Troy) who recorded 18 points and the other American import guard Kellen Dunham (198-93, college: Butler) added 10 points and 5 rebounds respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Spirou Charleroi have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 5-3 record. Okapi Aalstar at the other side keeps the second position with three games lost. They share it with Mons-Hainaut. Spirou Charleroi are looking forward to face Basic-Fit Brussels (#9) at home in the next round. Okapi Aalstar will play against Liege Basket (#6) and is hoping to win this game.
