Regular Season Round 6: Quimper - Denain 79-80

A very interesting game took place in Quimper. It ended with only one-point home defeat of higher ranked Quimper UJAP (2-4) to fourteenth ranked Denain Voltaire (2-3) 80-79 on Saturday evening. Quimper UJAP was ahead by 3 points after three quarters before a 21-17 charge of Denain Voltaire, which allowed them to win the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was a good game for American swingman Yunio Barrueta (198-93, college: Barry) who saved his team from a defeat with 28 points (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). Power forward Jerome Cazenobe (203-89) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Denain Voltaire's coach Remy Valin allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American-Cape Verdean point guard Jeffrey Xavier (189-85, college: Providence) replied with 20 points and 5 assists and American center Demarco Cox (203-90, college: Georgia Tech) added 18 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Quimper UJAP. Four Quimper UJAP players scored in double figures. Denain Voltaire moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Le Havre. Quimper UJAP lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the twelfth position with four games lost. Denain Voltaire's next round opponent will be league's leader Entente Orleans 45 on the road and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Quimper UJAP will play against Aix-Maurienne (#16) in Aix-les-Bains and hope to win that game.
