Regular Season Round 8: Espoo Team - HyPo 81-85
Date: November 18, 2017
The game in Espoo was also quite interesting. Fifth ranked HyPo (5-3) played at the court of 7th ranked Espoo Team (2-6). HyPo managed to secure a 4-point victory 85-81 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Espoo Team. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 23-16. But Espoo Team won second period 21-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. HyPo forced 22 Espoo Team turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The winners were led by the former international center Taru Tuukkanen (192-77, college: Xavier) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and the former international swingman Henna Salomaa (177-89, college: Oakland) supported her with 18 points. HyPo's coach Miikka Sopanen used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Even 33 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds by American guard Zykira Lewis (173-94, college: Cent.Florida, agency: Two Points) did not help to save the game for Espoo Team. Her fellow American import forward Kamilah Jackson (181-92, college: Hawaii) added 13 points and 16 rebounds for the hosts. Four Espoo Team players scored in double figures. HyPo have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to fourth place, which they share with ViVe. Loser Espoo Team dropped to the eighth position with six games lost. HyPo will meet Kouvottaret (#7) in the next round. Espoo Team will play against the league's leader Peli-Karhut in Kotka and hope to secure a win.
