Regular Season Round 7: Hapoel T-A - Maccabi Haifa 74-95
Date: November 19, 2017
Bottom-ranked Maccabi Haifa managed to get a second victory, breaking the series of three consecutive losses on Sunday night. This time they outleveled seventh-ranked Hapoel Tel-Aviv 95-74. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 21-point difference suggests that Maccabi Haifa is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. The game was mostly controlled by Maccabi Haifa. Hapoel Tel-Aviv managed to win fourth quarter 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maccabi Haifa made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for international Oz Blayzer (199-92) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 10 rebounds. American forward Brandon Bowman (205-84, college: Georgetown) helped adding 17 points and 7 rebounds. Four Maccabi Haifa players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Jerel McNeal (190-87, college: Marquette) responded with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and international Tomer Ginat (202-94, agency: Avi Zilberman) scored 13 points and 9 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Maccabi Haifa (2-5) moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Hapoel Tel-Aviv at the other side dropped to the sixth position with four games lost. They share it with Galil Gilboa. Maccabi Haifa is looking forward to face Hapoel Eilat (#9) on the road in the next round. Hapoel Tel-Aviv will play against Maccabi Rishon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
