Regular Season Round 8: Araski - Gernika 73-62

There was a minor upset in Vitoria-Gasteiz where 8th ranked Gernika (4-4) was defeated by tenth ranked Araski (4-4) 73-62 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Araski. Gernika managed to win second period 20-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Araski forced 20 Gernika turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Julie Forster (185-91, college: Albany) who helped to win the game recording 13 points and 9 rebounds and Venezuelan point guard Roselis Silva (166-91, college: Arkansas Tech) who added 16 points during the contest. Four Araski players scored in double figures. Araski's coach Madelen Urieta used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American center Talia Caldwell (188-91, college: California) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 14 rebounds and Russian forward Marina Bas (194-85) scored 11 points and 7 rebounds. Araski moved-up to eighth place, which they share with defeated Gernika. Araski will meet higher ranked Gipuzkoa UPV (#3) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Gernika will play against the league's leader Perfumerias Avenida (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
