Regular Season Round 8: Mens Sana 1871 - Cagliari Academy 80-86

Date: November 19, 2017
Everything could happen in Siena at the game between two tied teams. Both eleventh ranked Cagliari Academy and 9th ranked Mens Sana 1871 had identical 3-4 record. But Mens Sana 1871 was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Cagliari 86-80 on Sunday night. Mens Sana 1871 was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American forward Deshawn Stephens (203-89, college: San Diego St., agency: HMS) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 13 rebounds. The other American import point guard Marcus Keene (180-95, college: Cent.Michigan) chipped in 17 points and 5 assists. Four Cagliari Academy players scored in double figures. American forward Devin Ebanks (206-89, college: W.Virginia) produced 38 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds and the former international point guard Lorenzo Saccaggi (189-92, agency: Interperformances) added 11 points and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Mens Sana 1871's coach Giulio Griccioli tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Cagliari Academy (4-4) moved-up to tenth place in A2. Loser Mens Sana 1871 dropped to the twelfth position with five games lost. Cagliari Academy will face Virtus Roma (#15) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Mens Sana 1871 will play against Latina Basket and hope to win that game.
