Regular Season Round 9: Cecina - Alba 91-95

Date: November 19, 2017
There was an upset when higher ranked Cecina (4-5) lost at home to fourteenth ranked Alba (2-7) 95-91 on Sunday. They made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. Strangely Cecina outrebounded Alba 50-37 including a 21-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Cecina was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for point guard Claudio Maino (180-91) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 assists. Naturalized Argentinian swingman Santiago Boffelli (195-83) contributed with 21 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Lorenzo Turini (193-98, agency: Players Group) answered with 29 points and 9 rebounds (on 13-of-16 shooting from the field) and the former international forward Mario Gigena (198-77) added 17 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Cecina. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Cecina's coach Gianni Montemurro tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Newly promoted Alba maintains fourteenth place in B with 2-7 record, which they share with Palermo GB and Reggio Emilia. Loser Cecina dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. Alba will face Moncalieri (#15) at home in the next round.
