Regular Season Round 8: Grindavik - Stjarnan 78-88

There was a surprise result when ninth ranked Stjarnan (4-4) defeated on the road higher ranked Grindavik (4-4) 88-78. Stjarnan made 22-of-25 charity shots (88.0 percent) during the game. Stjarnan outrebounded Grindavik 51-37 including a 41-28 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by the former international power forward Hlynur Baeringsson (200-82) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 23 points and 19 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and forward Tomas Hilmarsson (201-95, college: Francis Marion) supported him with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Four Stjarnan players scored in double figures. Even 29 points by American guard Rashad Whack (190-91, college: Mt.St.Mary's) did not help to save the game for Grindavik. Forward Ingvi Gudmundsson (199-98) added 19 points for the hosts. Stjarnan moved-up to seventh place, which they share with defeated Grindavik. Stjarnan's next round opponent will be higher ranked Haukar (#3) in Hafnarfjordur and it may be quite challenging game.
