There was no surprise when 10th ranked Mondeville (2-5) was crushed at home by third ranked Villeneuve D'Ascq (5-1) 78-58. Villeneuve D'Ascq dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Mondeville's 36. Villeneuve D'Ascq forced 24 Mondeville turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for naturalized Senegalese forward Mame-Marie Sy-Diop (185-85) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds. The former international Johanne Gomis-Halilovic (179-85) accounted for 17 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Villeneuve D'Ascq's coach Frederic Dusart allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Canadian forward Kimberley Gaucher-Smith (185-84, college: Utah) came up with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and Czech swingman Romana Hejdova (184-88) added 14 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) respectively for Mondeville in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains third place with 5-1 record behind leader Bourges. Mondeville lost their fifth game in a row. They dropped to the ninth position with five games lost. Villeneuve D'Ascq's next round opponent will be Nantes Reze (#6) at home. Mondeville will play against Tarbes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
