Regular Season Round 8: Estudiantes - Al-Qazeres 75-87

Date: November 19, 2017
Bottom-ranked ASEFA Estudiantes (0-8) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 87-75 loss to sixth ranked Al-Qazeres (5-3) in Madrid on Sunday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Al-Qazeres. ASEFA Estudiantes managed to win fourth quarter 25-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Al-Qazeres made 18-of-19 free shots (94.7 percent) during the game. Al-Qazeres outrebounded ASEFA Estudiantes 40-29 including 25 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Alexis Jones (175-94, college: Baylor) who helped to win the game recording 33 points (!!!) and the other American import forward Shayla Cooper (188-95, college: Ohio St.) who added 19 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. Celia Menendez (186-90, agency: ProDep Management) responded with 25 points and center Mariana Gonzalez (187-88) scored 11 points. ASEFA Estudiantes' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Al-Qazeres moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Mann Filter and Sant Adria. Newly promoted ASEFA Estudiantes still closes the standings with eight games lost. Al-Qazeres will meet at home league's second-placed Argon Uni Girona in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. ASEFA Estudiantes will play against AE Sedis (#11) in Seu D'urgell and hopes to get finally their first victory.
