Regular Season Round 9: Sammic ISB - Castello 71-96

There was a surprise result when twelfth ranked Castello (4-5) crushed higher ranked Sammic ISB (4-5) in Azpeitia 96-71 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 12-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 96-71. Castello outrebounded Sammic ISB 41-25 including 28 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Sammic ISB's players. It was a good game for naturalized Lithuanian forward Tautvydas Sabonis (203-92) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Power forward Eduard Gatell (205-89) contributed with 20 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Castello players scored in double figures. Guard Aitor Zubizarreta (190-95, college: Idaho Coll.) answered with 15 points and 4 assists and American forward Kenny Kaminski (203-93, college: Ohio) added 16 points in the effort for Sammic ISB. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Castello moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 5 other teams including defeated Sammic ISB. Castello will face Leyma Basquet (#17) in Coruna in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
